Museum-style glass entomological box (26×33 x6 cm) in good condition (minor damage to framing paper), containing a superb Tchokwe comb (ethnic group of the People's Republic of the Congo, formerly Belgian Congo), surmounted by a seated pregnant woman holding her belly, surrounded by four large "tropical" Papilionidae, with black wings and white stripes. These superb-flying lepidopterans of the Papilio genus are often called "sailfish" or "tail-bearers" because of the well-developed lobes at the tips of their hindwings. Shown here are two males and two females of the Papilio gigon species.
The butterflies are in perfect condition, with well-developed caudal lobes and long antennae.
