Rare and very old 1880 Hardy salmon fly reel, Birmingham type size 3 5/8 (diameter 9 cm, width 4.5 cm), bronze spool with Hardy Bros inscription and "Rod in hand" trademark, "hard rubber" (ancestor of bakelite) reel back, ivory crank handle, six brass spacers, noisemaker pawl. Spool flanges in "German silver" (nickel-silver alloy). In perfect working order and perfect condition considering its age, over 140 years. In a padded hard leather case, a little tired, green felt interior.
