Old glass entomological box (26x33x6 cm), museum type, containing eleven lepidopterans, all well-defined, belonging to the genera Kallima, Athyma, Ausakia, all native to the Indian subcontinent, southern China, Indochina and most of the Indonesian islands including Borneo and the Philippines.
The best-known species is Kallima inachus (shown here with six specimens), also known as the "leaf butterfly", as can be seen clearly in the box, where a large specimen is presented ventrally, imitating to perfection, when its wings are closed at rest, a dead leaf. Whereas when it flies, the tops of its wings are flamboyantly multicolored (orange, blue and black, with small white spots) this butterfly is considered at rest, wings folded, as an expert camouflager, to hide from its predators.
The box is old but in good condition, and the butterflies are perfectly preserved.
