Museum-style entomological glass box (26x33x6 cm) containing twelve fairly rare butterflies belonging to the Charaxes genus and the tiridates species. This rather large butterfly, for a Charaxes, frequents the tropical rainforests of intertropical West Africa, from Senegal to Liberia, passing through Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, etc. The male has dark blue upper wings with small, lighter, mostly iridescent blue spots on the wing margins. The underside of the wings, when folded at rest, resembles a dead leaf. Females (three on right) are much duller, with brown
much duller, with light-brown and dark-brown wings and small light-blue spots, but only on the edges of the hindwings, which are less resplendent than in the males.
The box is in very good condition and the butterflies perfectly preserved.
