Museum-style entomological glass box (26x33x6 cm) containing six lepidopterans (butterflies) belonging to the genus Morpho, species menelaus, subspecies godartii, characteristic of Bolivian forests. The specimens on display are all males, whose upper wings are, as is almost always the case with morphos, highly iridescent metallic blue, with the exception of a black border, more or less wide, with a few white spots distributed along the edge of the forewings. Females, as is often the case with butterflies, are larger and, above all, of a less pronounced and much less iridescent blue, with a very broad light-brown border adorned with white spots on both forewings and hindwings. As with most morpho species, the underside of both males and females is a more or less dark camouflage brown, with ocelli present on both forewings and hindwings.
The upper row features two large males, seen from above, with a smaller male in the middle, seen from below. The bottom row features two males on either side, seen from below, with their eye-spots clearly visible, and in the middle a male seen from above.
The box and butterflies (LeCerf collection) are in very good condition.
