H.L.Leonard. Superb one-handed or one-and-a-half-handed salmon or sea trout fly rod (with removable 18cm second hand or "fighting handle") in split bamboo, model "The Tournament". 11-foot, three-section rod with two tip sections, for 7-gauge line. German Silver" suction ferrules, silver-nickel alloy, metal tip and tip rings, serpentine-type intermediate rings, patented self-locking reel seat in German Silver. Hiram Leonard split bamboo rods, manufactured in Maine, USA, are considered among the best and most sought-after in the world for both trout and salmon. From 1890/1900, the Leonard company, in association with its distributor Mills, manufactured some of the finest split-cut rods until 1940. The rod we present here (circa 1930) is in perfect condition, and has apparently seen very little fishing. This 11-footer, like most Leonard rods, is very pleasant both for casting and for fighting small salmon. Complete with grease plugs and original canvas sheath.
